Why does my P99's locking block have a notch?

The original P99 locking block lacks a notch at its rear, whereas the latest one has a notch. The original P99 locking block was made from a casting, but the latest one, with a notch, is a Metal Injection Molding (MIM) part. MIM parts require a gate for the injection of the material into the mold. The points of injection sometimes leave material that protrudes from the surface. The gate thus extends into the surface resulting in this small notch. The advantage for Walther is that the gate does not need to be deburred during production.
